| The Tree
Spirit story
|
|
A foundation/primary school visit includes my introduction to the children of seven of my 1/2 metre high carved tree spirits made from the wood and bark, leaves and fruits, catkins and acorns of seven of the most common and popular trees in the south east, namely: |
|
| the
Ash, the Beech, the Birch, the Hazel, the Horse Chestnut(conkers), the
Oak and the Willow. |
|
| The children
by these means can compare and contrast their different characteristics
and if trees are nearby, it becomes a fun `out of classroom` exercise
to match the tree spirits with the respective trees. |
|
" Danny and the Tree Spirits", the story I tell, follows Danny`s progress through an old wood where he meets Tree Spirits who, with great pride, introduce him to their trees and the creatures and birds who live in them (with the help of the children, of course).

| Biodiversity....How birds and animals depend on trees standing and fallen. | |
| Research....A basic description of the seven chosen trees and a sensory awareness exercise in how they look.feel ,sound and smell. | |
| History...How we have valued and even worshipped trees in the past and still do,not just for the wood we use from them but as the magnificent living beings they are. | |
| Arts and Crafts.....We show how to preserve leaves and flowers and how to make Tree Spirits as Tree Identification Wands. | |
I am also happy to discuss any other particular projects and ideas with schools that relate to tree and woods study. |
